Aren't old people cute, and yet somehow sad the way they die? With chirpy condescension, British documentarian Stephen Walker looks at the Young@Heart Chorus in Northampton, Massachusetts, whose septuagenarian and octogenarian singers have won an indulgent audience by covering the rock artists (David Bowie, Sonic Youth, the Clash, the Ramones) favored by their middle-aged choral director, Bob Cilman. Most of the seniors don't care for the music, but they sure love the attention, and Walker does his best to present them as real characters despite their mostly prosaic lives. The project reeks of commercial calculation, which is just tolerable until Walker, in search of a story arc, follows two chorus members with serious illnesses into the hospital.
