Our Review

Long before the name Yoshi was inextricably linked in the public mind with Nintendo, Yoshi’s restaurant was ground zero during Chicago’s early forays into fusion cuisine, merging culinary traditions from all over the planet. Now expanded and reportedly more "casual", it remains a friendly place that gets points for superb ingredients, imaginative presentation, and attentive, unobtrusive service. Yoshi is still in the kitchen; Nobuko, his gracious wife, works the front desk, and the professional, telepathically attuned staff smoothly serves up creative cuisine at reasonable prices, like a snow crab spring roll served with an edamame coulis ($7.50) or Wagyu beef burger with wasabi blue cheese $17.95). There are a number of traditional bistro items--roast chicken, steak frites, and cassoulet--with representative ingredients from Europe, Asia, and California, and several reasonably priced wines by the glass. With inventive salads including the exceptional grilled radicchio with pine nuts and goat cheese, inexpensive side dishes, and an interstellar dessert selection, you can have a fine vegetarian dinner or a nice hunk of meat or fish and enjoy a fine-dining eating experience without a bank-breaking tab.
