In this 70-minute one-act (whose Hindi title translates as "vagina monologues"), five actors perform solo pieces by ten writers addressing the sexual and social experiences of American women of Indian descent. The scenes range from humorous (a young girl fends off the overbearing attentions of her mother and aunties after her first period) to moving (a high-powered corporate attorney experiences a sense of powerlessness during a long-distance phone conversation with a computer helpline operator--an underpaid Indian woman under pressure to abort her unborn child because her in-laws don't want a female grandchild). Dressed in elegant black pantsuits accented with beautifully colored scarves and shawls, the cast of Lavina Jadhwani's Rasaka Theatre production deliver the candid, witty, sometimes sexually explicit script with disarming, deceptively casual simplicity. --Albert Williams
