Yearning

Living with her in-laws after the death of her husband in the war, Hideko Takamine finds herself drawn to her late husband's rebellious younger brother, but because of the scandal such a relationship would cause, she fights to temper her feelings. This 1964 Japanese production was among the last films of Mikio Naruse, one of the cinema's great poets of ordinary unhappiness. With Yuzo Kayama and Mitsuko Kusabue. In Japanese with subtitles.
