Harold Ramis's career as a big-studio filmmaker might well have ended with The Ice Harvest (2005), a classy, grown-up crime comedy that flopped miserably. Luckily for Ramis, he has fans in high places: Judd Apatow, the hottest comedy director in the business (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin), grew up worshipping the stuff Ramis wrote in the late 70s and early 80s (SCTV, Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes) and stepped up to produce this new feature. Creatively it's a giant step backwards, with Jack Black and Michael Cera playing to the kids as inept hunter-gatherers who stumble across various Old Testament characters. With David Cross and Paul Rudd (as Cain and Abel), and Hank Azaria and Christopher Mintz-Plasse (as Abraham and Isaac). PG-13, 97 min.
