Action, Horror
Zombie thrillers just keep coming; there's nothing you can do to stop them, so the best thing is to barricade yourself inside and try to remain calm. This one distinguishes itself mainly through spectacle, and its standout sequence, near the beginning, shows a city traffic jam slowly disintegrating into chaos as the rabid hordes approach and then burst into view. Brad Pitt stars as a former United Nations crisis manager called out of retirement to find a cure for the pandemic, his assignment taking him first to Jerusalem and then to the World Health Organization headquarters in the UK. Director Marc Forster can't do much with the stale human story, in which Pitt leaves his frightened wife and daughters on an aircraft carrier to await his return; the most gripping moments here are all aerial shots exploiting our most common experience of humanitarian crisis—on TV, by helicopter.
