Winter Pageant Redux | Redmoon Theater | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Fridays-Sundays. Continues through Jan. 4 2009
Price: $10-$15
Back after a four-year break, Redmoon Theater's seasonal production no longer involves amateurs. But it still lingers on summer. A preshow evokes warm weather, and early on a woman in a light, lemony dress gets romanced by a dapper fish. The general drift of dreamlike, often humorous episodes is toward winter, though, with lots of rhyming images along the way: bubbles, confetti, snow. Watery scenes abound. In one of the funniest, two squabbling girls row a bathtub/boat, while in one of the most chilling a man wraps himself in yards of thick nautical rope. Shu Shubat's fanciful, sometimes melancholy songs provide grown-up appeal, but this is essentially a show for kids. And by that I mean anyone with a sense of wonder. --Laura Molzahn
