The year is 2564, and vaguely feline-faced aliens—whose speech is subtitled in a scene that surely wasn't meant to be as funny as it is—have gained the upper hand in a war with earthlings by stealing a black box that enables the possessor to span gulfs of space and time. Human fighter pilots who fall in love faster than the script can deliver basic exposition are the main characters in this excruciatingly earnest yet convictionless movie, whose makers don't seem to have noticed that the bigotry of some characters toward the mixed-race human hero parallels the unsympathetic depiction of the aliens. Chris Roberts directed a screenplay by Kevin Droney, based on a computer game created by Roberts; with Freddie Prinze Jr., Matthew Lillard, Saffron Burrows, and Tcheky Karyo.
