Randolph Wine Cellar

1415 W. Randolph

312-942-1212 or tlcwine.com

You know you're in for a good time when the wine pourer compares the French red you're about to sip to a "country bumpkin with a pitchfork." What servers lack in pretension, they make up for in knowledge, wit, and generosity as they offer up about ten different wines and beers each Saturday at Randolph Wine Cellar's free tasting. The space is a cross between industrial and cozy; while the selection is large, bottles aren't stacked to the ceiling. Since each tasting lasts all afternoon you can take your time drinking, talking, and asking lots of questions. You can even drink your way through the list more than once, just to be sure you really liked that chardonnay. Tastings are from noon to 6 PM; call ahead to see what's on tap.
