Hotel Allegro

171 W. Randolph

Everybody knows fancy hotels have a free evening wine hour for guests in the lobby, but who knew that when you crash they don't care? I was talking to the wine pourer while waiting for a friend at the Hotel Allegro recently and confessed that I wasn't actually staying at the hotel. He said not to worry--having more people around is good for the atmosphere. Nevertheless there are a few rules: going in a large group can get you in trouble, jeans and gym shoes won't fly, and you will get carded. The Allegro serves complimentary wine daily from 5 to 6 PM, as do its sister hotels, the Monaco, 225 N. Wabash, and the Burnham, 1 W. Washington.
