Re: “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

When I found out last year that GPB was coming to this little theatre, I had the same thoughts as to why they would select this particular play. However, I also admired their ambition enough to check it out. The Sunday matinee was a great escape. The cast is talented, and Lorelei is beautiful and has a great voice.
This is my all time favorite movie, based on the 1925 book. It was intresting to see the original 1948 stage production and how much of the story had been changed for the 1953 movie.

One unfortunate distraction was the costumes. This is such an over the top musical, and the costumes should be bright and fun. Most of the women's wardrobe is bland and downright ugly. Many of coats and dresses had long threads hanging from them, and a few were actually torn and ripping at the seams. A small theatre is very unforgiving as we are so close to the stage. I had a strong desire to whip out a needle and thread and start mending.

PS - the Olympic team's workout shorts left nothing, I mean NOTHING to the imagination. I was in the front row and feel as if I know these young men very well!

Overall, I would recommend it.
