Re: “Pete Miller's Seafood & Prime Steak

I highly recommend Pete Miller's--it is a very good steakhouse.I have eaten there on many occasions, and have sampled many of their main dishes and sides. Of the steaks, I think the bone-in ribeye is the best; it is a very large cut, and I find it more flavorful than the filet mignon and New York strip. It is very good! Stay away from sides such as the garlic mashed potatoes and the potato pancakes--the mashed are not very creamy and the pancakes are overpowered by sour cream and cheese. On the other hand, the soup of the day (such as clam chowder, cream of mushroom and cream of tomato) is generally a superior offering. The salads are decent. A hidden bargain on the menu is the prime burger--this is one of the best burgers you'll ever eat.

Re: “Ruby of Siam

This is an excellent Thai Restaurant; the menu is diverse, the food is well prepared, fresh and tasty, and the cost is very reasonable (entrees in the $8 range). I've eaten here many times and have always been well satisfied by the chicken and noodle dishes. If you like spicy food, this is great food at a great price. I highly recommend it.

Re: “Bricks

Brick's is a very good, though not great pizza place. The crust is firm, though a little too thick to be considered true thin crust, and has a nice yeasty flavor. The toppings are also very good, and the sauce is especially tasty--herby and oniony. From what I've ascertained, there aren't too many outstanding thin crust pizza places in the city, so Brick's is a restaurant that definitely merits return visits.

The food is bad; the service, rude; the crowd, obnoxious. We ordered the steak sandwich and shredded beef with garlic and peppers. The sandwich was about the size of a White Castle slider and much blander in flavor; it was way overpriced. The shredded beef was a larger portion, but again suffered from a lack of flavor. I would never order either dish again. Furthermore, we waited 10-15 minutes before our waitress took our order--the restaurant wasn't even that busy, either--and when she did arrive at our table, she communicated exclusively in grunts and condescending smirks. The crowd was almost exclusively yuppie--need I say more?

Re: “Campagnola

While it has been suggested that Campagnola ranks among the finest Italian restaurants in the area, I strongly dispute such a claim. The atmosphere here is bad--the bar is crowded when one waits for a table (everyone waits)--and the seats at the tables are hard and uncomfortable; meanwhile, the decor is also unpleasant, as it resembles the interior of a barn. I was equally unimpressed with the food. I ordered beef tenderloin, which didn't have much flavor, and seemed gristly. Although the beef was as expensive as the meat you'll find at the city's best steakhouses, the quality was lacking by comparison. I also wasn't impressed with the pasta w/peppers and oil. There simply wasn't any flavor to it--the dish's attempt at understatement resulted in minimal flavor. Overall, the food was passable, but not for the price. I don't plan to return to this restaurant.

Re: “Campagnola

This place has been dubbed one of the best Italian restaurants in the area, but I'll never return to Campagnola: the atmosphere is horrible--seating is tight and uncomfortable, and the room is loud--and the food is mediocre--the restaurant doesn't seem to use prime meats, for example, but choice or select cuts; the pasta dishes aren't all that flavorful; the portions are small. While some dishes are innovative, I routinely prepare better Italian food in my kitchen, and I'm not a trained chef. There's no excuse for the poor quality of beef offered here, especially given it's expensive price. Don't believe the hype; this place is crummy.
