Wildlike

This low-key indie drama begins as a nightmare but transforms into a dream. A 14-year-old girl (Ella Purnell) arrives in Juneau to visit her uncle, but he turns out to be a pedophile. She escapes into the Alaskan wilderness, where she's forced to survive on her own. Eventually she latches onto a solitary hiker (Bruce Greenwood) in hope that he'll lead her to safety, and their journey takes them through spectacular landscapes, leading both characters to a sense of peace. Frank Hall Green, directing his own script, maintains a poker-faced perspective, offering no hints as to where the story might lead and allowing scenes to unfold casually. The epiphanies arrive unexpectedly and are delivered with admirable restraint.
