This entertaining live-action version of the long-running BBC science fiction series Dr. Who, written by brothers Justin and McKenzie Gerber and directed by Joseph Ramski, successfully walks the line between homage and parody. Sometimes the show pokes fun at the cult series, with its low-tech special effects and predilection for aliens who want to exterminate all life in the universe. At other times it revels in the show's foibles and eccentricities—idiosyncratic pacing, cheesy sound effects, inside jokes and in-games. Ramski’s cast perfectly re-create the show’s performance style, which itself is simultaneously a send-up of TV sci-fi and a glorification of it. —Jack Helbig
