Pamela Tanner Boll looks at the professional obstacles faced by women artists who divide their time between their work and their children. Her anecdotal approach gives us a chance to meet Maye Torres, who scrapes by in Taos, New Mexico, raising two kids on her own, and Janis Mars Wunderlich, a Mormon who tends to her nuclear family in Columbus, Ohio, but takes time off to make grotesque sculptures of women with two heads or babies dangling from their uteruses. Boll interviews two gorilla-suited members of the Guerrilla Girls, whose stunts called attention to the gender discrimination in the art world during the 80s. But with few details on the artists' finances or how people get ahead in fine art, and some interview subjects from the performing arts, the documentary slips off into platitudes about creativity and the female life force. 83 min.
