White Frog

In this heavy-handed indie drama a teenager with Asperger syndrome comes of age after the death of his older brother, who concealed his homosexuality. I hate to fault a movie promoting queer acceptance and greater awareness of mental disorders, but the issues are so simplified here that any positive message feels patronizing. The opulent Beverly Hills setting, in which every character lives in a mansion and drives a luxury car, is offered up without comment or, oddly enough, any sort of visual style to complement it. Quentin Lee directed; with B.D. Wong and Joan Chen.
