Writer-director David Trueba may have watched one too many insipid French farces (or their even lamer American remakes): his 2006 romantic comedy plays like a Spanish Three Men and a Baby. The conceit that men are essentially infantile until they become fathers is stretched wafer thin in this story about a mama's boy (Alejo Sauras) who moves to Madrid to room with his pregnant girlfriend (the fetching Pilar Lopez de Ayala). After he lands a job as a magazine photographer, his boisterous male colleagues try to toughen him up, but their eccentricities are so pronounced that most of the humor misfires. The women fare better, particularly Juana Acosta as a stripper from the protagonist's past and Ariadna Gil (Pan's Labyrinth), Trueba's wife, as a flinty crime reporter. 118 min.
