The ghosts of Liza Minnelli past (excitable entertainer), present (addled survivor), and future (giant, mascara-caked eyeball) haunt a hateful fashion designer and his nebbishy assistant in this razzle-dazzle musical riff on A Christmas Carol. The message of Scott Bradley's book has to do with finding strength in being different, but don't ask me how that connects to the story we're told. Once you give up trying to make sense of things, there are pleasures to be had in Scott Ferguson's zesty, Dr. Seuss-meets-Bob Fosse staging for About Face Theatre. They include Patrick Andrews's hilarious choreography, Alan Schmuckler's flashy score, and sharp-witted lyrics by Bradley, who's unafraid to rhyme "baby Jesus" with "monkeys we call rhesus." —Zac Thompson
