Inspired by the Pochinko school of clowning, which blends Native American and European traditions, Wanted serves up a clown show for these troubled times, featuring three laid-off schmoes with red noses and chips on their shoulders. Since the system has failed, they reason, we need the opposite of a system: "motherfucking chaos!" But the piece feels too well-mannered and interiorized to tap the raw heart of our current absurdities. Barnaby King's bookworm naif has moments of pathos, especially as he meditates on Pedro Calderon de la Barca's Life Is a Dream--but overall, these clowns need to remember that achieving a true sense of seat-of-the-pants danger requires precision-tooled character work. --Kerry Reid
