In this mash note, writer-performer Teresa Veramendi dramatizes her passion for Vincent van Gogh, who she feels speaks directly to her across time and space. Three cast members play different versions of the artist: the self-destructive madman of popular conception, the earnest seeker of his published letters, and a soulful female of Veramendi's own imagining designed to fill in gaps left by the other two. Veramendi movingly conveys the unknowability of our dead heroes, but she can't resist sentimentalizing her subject ("I wish I could've taught you yoga") and ends up deemphasizing what makes van Gogh worth getting to know in the first place: his paintings. --Zac Thompson
