If you read the recent B Side story on the brief life of online microscene vaporwave, you might recall that members of the post-vaporwave set were planning a casino-themed third installment of Tinychat-based festival SPF420 for late March. Local producer Chaz Allen (aka Metallic Ghosts, who just released the EP Picture-in-Picture) tells Gossip Wolf that the date is now confirmed: Wed 3/20. The lineup includes SPF420 alum Vektroid, Mishka-approved Portland act Magic Fades, and hyperactive producer DJ Paypal. Allen will play the part of house DJ (as Sugar C) and cohost with Stress. The fest starts at 9 PM at Tinychat.com/spf420, and Transmuteo hosts the Tinychat afterparty.

When Gossip Wolf got wind via Twitter that idiosyncratic art-rocker and guitar wizard Marnie Stern was in Chicago last week to practice with her band before a tour in support of the forthcoming LP The Chronicles of Marnia, we just had to know what she and her adorable li'l dog, Fig, got up to. Marnie raved about Bucktown Costa Rican restaurant Irazu, Star Lounge Coffee Bar, and Gino's East (a particular favorite of Fig's). She also gave a shout-out to Third Coast Guitar Repair, who overhauled her ax, for being "super knowledgeable and pro." Stern returns to town Wed 4/17 to play the Empty Bottle.

We're big fans of writer, painter, and occasional Reader contributor Dmitry Samarov—his dark literary tales of driving cabs and tending bar can throw us into a delicious blue funk. So we were jazzed to hear he's putting out a recording, The Blue Light and Other Things That Happened, where he reads said tales over improvised music from talented pals such as guitarist Bill MacKay and drummer Charles Rumback. It's downloadable via Bandcamp, and if you pony up a bit more scratch you can get a CD with a unique hand-painted cover!
