Much of this fractured drama and dark fantasy takes place inside the mind of Charlie (Dan Futterman), who's struggling to come to terms with the loss of his boyfriend. The several subplots are mostly dramatizations of provocative and sometimes gory scenarios imagined or peripherally experienced by the character as he roams a nearly anonymous New York City, collecting and spreading the stories, ultimately trying to create a new urban legend. But it's hard to see the point of the movie's caginess about Charlie's back story, given that the scenes in which he frankly expresses his need for revenge are so much more interesting than all the suggestion and symbolism. Written by director Jon Shear and Daniel Reitz, based on a play by Reitz; with Matt Keeslar and Samuel Ball. 103 min.
