Comedy drama
Stephen Walker's saccharine documentary Young@Heart (2007), about a senior citizens' chorus camping it up with 80s rock tunes, was bad enough, but now it's inspired this sappy drama with Vanessa Redgrave and Terence Stamp as an old married couple. She's dying of cancer but irrepressibly upbeat, living for her singing rehearsals and her next crack at Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors"; he's an old curmudgeon, disdainful of her hobby but terrified of losing her (advised by his son to have enjoy life, he replies, "You know how I feel about enjoying things"). The sunny score and chirping voice-over narration weren't what I expected from British director Paul Andrew Williams, whose last feature to roll through town was the superior noir thriller London to Brighton (2006).
