Hubbard Street Dance Chicago unveils a new series of dances, all reinventing and reimagining the Chinese Tea divertissement in The Nutcracker, which has long been criticized for its use of "yellowface" and orientalist stereotypes. Three Asian American choregraphers, all invited by HSDC associate artistic director Jessica Tong, provide their own version of the one-minute dance, with each premiering on consecutive Mondays, starting May 10 with Yin's Tea by Yin Yue of New York's YY Dance Company and continuing May 17 with Ed's Tea by Edwaard Liang of BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio, and concluding on May 24 with Peter's Tea by Peter Chu of chuthis in Las Vegas.
