When: Thursdays-Sundays. Continues through Nov. 15 2009
Price: $15-$25
Punctuated with the usual Pinterian pauses and air of menace, this intriguing evening of one-acts depicts the weird ways in which fantasy can substitute for passion. In "The Lover" and "The Collection," partners running low on love employ elaborate fictions to, respectively, create an imaginary infidelity and deny a real one. In each case, the lie improves on life and a seemingly weak marriage suddenly emerges looking very strong. Joyce Piven's four actors prove devilishly adept at the sexual role-playing that energizes Pinter's artful deceptions. Though the lack of British accents smudges class distinctions that should fuel "The Collection," jealousy, convenient or disruptive, is the main ingredient here and it curdles on cue. --Lawrence Bommer
