Tweak Bird, Fake Limbs, Nones

When: Fri., June 6, 9 p.m. 2014
Price: $10
Nones have been kicking around since 2010, playing their slovenly skronk-punk nonstop, both in town and out on the road, and this month they’ve finally released their first LP. Midwestern Family Values, out on HoZac and available for the first time at this show, perfectly captures the band’s bummer vibe—their sloppy, primitive Flipper-style noise rock combines caveman drums, Greg Ginn-flavored guitar, and delay-soaked saxophone into an uncomfortably itchy backdrop for lead singer Brandon Bayles’s strained and often hilariously self-deprecating vocals. Since the recording of Midwestern Family Values, guitarist Patti Gran (formerly of the Dials and the New Black) has moved on, leaving the band a trio, with Bayles picking up a guitar. Now that he’ll be anchored to a mike stand, I’m worried that he won’t be able to indulge in his usual vile stage antics—at a Nones show I saw in Memphis, he mentioned that his mom was planning on attending, then debated about whether it’d be appropriate to pull out his dick onstage in front of her. Fortunately Nones’s music will still pack a gross, messy punch, no matter where his dick is. —Luca Cimarusti
