Kay is in labor, her doctor has never delivered a real baby before, and the nurse's technique for checking dilation involves ramming her hand up the patient's vagina. Meanwhile, Kay's playwright husband, Goldie, has a make-or-break opening in two hours, at the prestigious Lawdy Mama Theater; as Kay's complications increase, the entire cast of his show barge into the hospital room trailing opening-night jitters, superstitions, and crises. The finale of Scott Oken and Ernie Deak's frantic comedy is hilarious because it turns a recognizable situation preposterous. But the erratic Chicago-theater-scene satire that precedes it is too preposterous to be recognizable—and therefore turns unhilarious. A riotous cast and Nick Digilio's laser-focused direction can't save this Factory Theater production. —Justin Hayford
