Tinkerbelles, the Humminbird

When: Thu., March 20, 10 p.m. 2014
What do you do when your awesome band starts falling apart? You make a better band out of the half of it that's left. That's exactly what locals Adam Mohundro and Christian Dawson did when their sprawling indie-rock group Gypsyblood fizzled out—and in their brand-new bass-and-drums duo, Tinkerbelles, they play simple, razor-sharp indie pop tinged with postpunk. The two of them can generate a massive amount of sound with their minimal setup, piling hypermelodic call-and-response singing atop tight drumming and rock-solid, straightforward bass. If Wire had set out to be the catchiest band on the planet, they'd probably have sounded a whole lot like these guys. Tinkerbelles just finished recording a handful of songs for a seven-inch coming out in the spring, and now they're starting work on a full-length. —Luca Cimarusti The Humminbird opens.
