Set in an abandoned Chicago factory, or so we're told, Charles Mee's 1997 play paints a surreal portrait of the unlikely group of homeless people who live inside. There's the Polish technician perpetually tinkering with a motherboard. The gambler with a tailored suit and a run of bad luck. The heroin addict who speaks only in the metered Attic Greek of the tragedians. If this is an issue play, the issue isn't homelessness—it's metaphysics. Emelia Zuckerman directs a haunting production for Forget Me Not Theatre Company, which benefits from Sarah Lewis's careful set and and Alex Palma's chilling sound design. At times, Mee's script errs on the side of excess subtlety, but Zuckerman's cast navigate the nuances with maximum impact. —Keith Griffith
