In this riveting war drama by Canadian playwright Hannah Moscovitch, four soldiers describe to investigators the events surrounding a planned attack on the Taliban that somehow turned into a massacre of more than a hundred mostly unarmed Afghans, including several children. Using flashbacks, shifting perspective, and tense, muscular dialogue, Moscovitch powerfully depicts the moral murk of war, its devastating toll on the psyche, and the way split-second decisions can have lasting consequences. Playing a quartet of deeply flawed but fully drawn characters, the cast of Ronan Marra's explosive production seem at once haunted by what they've seen and terrified of what they're capable of. Especially impressive is Michael Finley, who plays a fresh-faced recruit with a volatile mix of naivete and adolescent recklessness. —Zac Thompson
