Things Fall Apart: A Zombie Musical

When: Saturdays. Continues through March 30 2013
Price: $20
This compelling story of a fictional Nigerian village offers commentary on 19th-century British colonialism. Oh wait, that's Chinua Achebe's Things Fall Apart. This, on the other hand, is one you've heard plenty of times: it's the apocalypse, zombies have taken over, a few people survived, the bad one dies, and the hero ends up with a girl. The program indicates that this is the first time many of the actors have performed onstage—and it shows. Even if Axel Arth and Tyler Welton's musical is supposed to sound like some ungodly mash-up of the Shaggs and Wesley Willis, the combination of awful singing and awkward acting doesn't feel funny or even weirdly fascinating. It just feels wrong. —Tal Rosenberg
