When television pioneer Steve Allen made a book-tour stop at Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore a few years ago, owner Augie Aleksy had a question for him: Was it OK if the store's history discussion group occasionally borrowed an Allen shtick and staged a "Meeting of the Minds"? Hey, Allen said, Petrarch did it--why not you? "We're dedicating this weekend's meeting of world leaders to Allen's memory," Aleksy says. And what a lineup: the stars of the 1945 Yalta Conference--Franklin D. Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin--will talk about why they sliced things up the way they did and answer questions from the audience. If you always wanted to ask Roosevelt why he gave away Poland, here's your chance. Actor R.J. Lindsey, academic John Kearney, and banker John Machonga will be channeling the leaders under the guidance of moderator Arthur Golab. The tenth Centuries & Sleuths Meeting of the Minds starts at 7 PM Saturday, November 11, at the store, 7419 W. Madison in Forest Park. Admission is $5; call 708-771-7243 for reservations.
