The parking spaces provided in both the proposals is ample to support the apartments being proposed. I think the spillover of parking is being grossly over exaggerated. Is money a driving factor in development? Yes.

You can't complain about lack of development and then complain about proposed developments bringing in dollars in the same sentence, it's contradictory. Empty storefronts generate very little money, when more money is brought into an area more tenants will feasibly look to fill some of those storefronts up.

One other thing worth considering: if you rent or own a house with a backyard and a garage, and a building pops up 15... 8... 4 blocks away from you, your backyard will still be there, and your garage parking space will be 100% unaffected. This is the perfect opportunity to meld the "suburban" area with an urban hub.
