Steppenwolf Theatre Company

1650 N. Halsted

312-335-1650 (ask for audience services)

Theater in Chicago is reasonably priced, but if you've got a habit those tickets can add up. Happily, many theaters, including the Goodman, Lookingglass, Redmoon, and Chicago Shakespeare, will let you watch a show for free if you volunteer as an usher, subject to certain conditions. With three stages, Steppenwolf has one of the more flexible programs. Signing up a couple weeks early and being flexible yourself will help you get the show you are interested in. Plan on arriving an hour and 15 minutes before curtain for an orientation and sticking around afterward to pick up loose programs. You'll also need to look sharp, dressed in black on the bottom and white up top.
