Like some of the juvenile delinquency movies Hollywood cranked out in the 50s, this jittery black-and-white drama from Japan's Nikkatsu studio actually celebrates the values it's supposed to be condemning. A young hell-raiser (Tamio Kawachi) spends his days picking pockets and his nights getting crazy at the local bebop bar; after he kidnaps and rapes a beautiful artist (Noriko Matsumoto), she finds herself both pregnant with his child and drawn to his lower-class anarchy. Eventually the movie's kineticism becomes a value statement in itself—if you're looking for some action, you've come to the right place. Koreyoshi Kurahara directed this 1960 feature. In Japanese with subtitles. 75 min.
