The Warnock Lecture Series: Fred Moten

When: Thu., March 3, 4 p.m. 2011
Price: free
Focusing on Fluxus artist Benjamin Patterson, Fred Moten takes up the question of the relation between performance art and musical performance as it is enacted in the 1964 composition Lick Piece and in recent versions of Carmen and Tristan and Isolde. With some extended reference to Carolee Schneemann and Bertolt Brecht, this lecture will take its lead from Rebecca Schneider’s theorization of “the explicit body in performance” in an effort to consider some further (racial) implications of this crucially important feminist paradigm.
