The Ugly Truth

Far more ugly than truthful, this leprous romantic comedy stars Katherine Heigl (Knocked Up) as the uptight and overworked producer of a failing Sacramento TV news broadcast. Gerard Butler (300) is the lowbrow and undershaven host of a cable access show devoted to the proposition that men are dogs and women should deal with it. Hired by her superiors boost ratings, he literally rubs her the wrong way but then becomes a Bluetoothed Cyrano de Bergerac whose coaching wins her the love of a hunky surgeon. In the course of two hours, she learns to say cock and he surrenders to true love. Director Robert Luketic telegraphs every dismal comic beat from Venus and Mars, then reinforces them with a twinkling, leering score. R, 101 min.
