There isn't much need for bikinis in Chicago right now, unless you're imagining yourself on a tropical island. Bikini Shakespeare's second production, The Tempest, is set on such an island, somewhere in the Mediterranean, where cavorting in skimpy bathing suits doesn't seem like such a bad idea. (And did somebody turn up the thermostat inside Gorilla Tango Theatre?) Director Katie Horwitz's adaptation runs a brisk hour, and it's better during the slapstick bits than during the dramatic moments you probably discussed to death in English class. But this production reminds you of something else your teacher may have mentioned: that Shakespeare wrote to entertain. And this cast—and their costumes—are more than up to the job, particularly Gabe Beutel-Gunn, Christopher Ziegler, and Jeff Irlbeck, who steal the show as Caliban, Trinculo, and Stephano. —Aimee Levitt
