The Taming of the Shrew | Ingraham Park | Theater & Performance | Chicago Reader
This is a past event.
When: Saturdays, Sundays. Continues through Sept. 8 2013
The script aside, this production of Shrew is the best you've ever seen, bar none. That could sound like faint praise, but Muse of Fire has created a marvelous summertime romp in the park that careens along on the goofy energy of beautiful young actors so well cast and well directed you forget you're supposed to be earnestly offended now that misogyny's passe. That this play is sexist is as obvious as the fact that Romeo and Juliet is sappy, Othello is racist, and the history plays a gasping bore. Good eye! But in a particularly gleeful turn, this production sports a Petruchio so fine in the honey-voiced Alex Fthenakis that by the end we are as head over heels as Kate. —Marya Hornbacher
