Romantic comedy
When a single 40-year-old career woman tells her best friend that she’s decided to have a child by artificial insemination, he tries to dissuade her for various reasons, although the most important one—that he’s actually in love with her—remains unspoken. Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman costar, and while Aniston has established herself as a gifted comedian, it’s Bateman who's especially memorable as a sweater-vest-attired neurotic sleepwalking through his job as a financial analyst. Featuring sharp dialogue by screenwriter Allen Loeb (adapted from Jeffrey Eugenides’s short story "The Baster") rife with acid quips, this New York-based comedy directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck distinguishes itself with three-dimensional characters and an engaging storyline. With Jeff Goldblum, Juliette Lewis, and Patrick Wilson.
