The Student and Mr. Henri

A nubile undergraduate in Paris (Noémie Schmidt) moves into the spare room of an old curmudgeon (Claude Brasseur) and, short on rent, reluctantly agrees to seduce the man's middle-aged son (Guillaume de Tonquédec) away from his wife, whom the old man dislikes. Written and directed by Ivan Calbérac, this agreeable piece of fluff (2015) works the sentimental formula of a vivacious young woman humanizing a horrible grouch, though the sweetness of their relationship is undercut by their ugly scheme, and the much-stressed poignance of the old man's longing for his dead wife is deflated when Calbérac reveals that she's been gone for 30 years. In French with subtitles.
