David Tamés's charming Smile Boston Project shows artist Bren Bataclan leaving in public places his cheerily colored paintings of goofy critters, each with a note offering it for free if the taker will smile at strangers more often. In George Kuchar's The Smutty Professor the underground filmmaker directs his students at the San Francisco Art Institute in his production The Planet of the Vamps. The silly situations are typical of student film shoots, and the campy costumes recall many a Kuchar film; the high point is arguably when one young man exposes himself. Also screening is Tamir Elterman's That Which Sustains, a more routine documentary on Oakland painter Abraham Elterman. 66 min.
