The recently widowed heroine of this dark comedy (2002) set in the 50s returns from America to her hometown in Iceland, and like an avenging goddess rescues her mousy female relatives from abusive spouses—one of whom conveniently dies in a fire. She sets up a dress shop to make the women financially independent after she lands one of the town's richest men; this adds to the jealousy of her young niece, who tries to convince the village constable that her aunt is up to no good. Agust Gudmundsson directs. In Icelandic with subtitles. 100 minutes.
