The Santa Abductions

In Sean Benjamin's twisted, bitterly funny play for the Neo-Futurists, all Fred wants is for Santa to exist. Brokenhearted as a child to learn that Santa doesn't, Fred decides to change that as an adult. How? By kidnapping department store Santas and torturing them. The script is stuffed with ideas, sometimes too many: the myths we tell ourselves, the responsibilities of parents toward their children, the similarities between Santa and Jesus. Led by Jay Torrence as a deliciously demented Fred and directed by Sean Daniels, the cast radiates a perfect plastic zaniness, with despair roiling beneath. Through 12/23: Thu-Sat 8 PM. Sun 11/27, 2 PM. No show Thu 11/24. Neo-Futurarium, 5153 N. Ashland (second floor), 773-275-5255. $10-$15; "pay what you can" Thu.
