To the editors:

Excellent article on Forest Beach, New Buffalo [August 11]--but one other part of the story was overlooked. A letter to the Harbor Country News details it in relation to that project; on the larger scene, up and down the Michigan coast there are many of us who have painfully learned to work with and make use of the local governments to try to protect the natural scenery. It is very hard, time-consuming work, it can pay off--but it runs into not so much township and developer greed as apathy on the part of the "summer people" who come here to get away from it all and don't fight UNLESS their own immediate turf is threatened.
