After an ultraconservative senator's shake-up victory in the Illinois primary, his team of scrappy young campaign staffers gets a pinprick in the celebratory balloon when the first in a string of embarrassing news stories points to a source within their ranks. The rest of this solid, ambitious political thriller by Emmett Rensin, set in a cramped pastel hotel room at campaign HQ, shows the team in a series of flashbacks, dreaming up increasingly twisted conspiracy theories to account for the ongoing leaks. First Floor Theater's impressive cast strikes a marvelous balance between dry humor and dull political rhetoric, and even though the play seems untethered from any credible version of running for office, it beautifully renders its own set of riveting dilemmas. —Jena Cutie
