Nothing threatens the social order like a man who takes the gospel literally. Jay Reinke, a Lutheran minister in Williston, North Dakota, alienated much of his parish and the surrounding community when he founded the Overnighters program, opening up his home, his church, and its parking lot to the migrants who flood the town looking for work in the local fracking industry. Documentary maker Jesse Moss (Full Battle Rattle) chronicles the ongoing conflict between Reinke and the city council as it tries to shut down his program, a struggle that grows even more heated and morally complicated when some migrants are identified in the press as registered sex offenders. The movie might seem like just another liberal do-gooder profile, yet a shocker ending throws new and disturbing light on the situation, amplifying the Christian themes at the heart of the story.
