The Oscar Nominated Short Films 2010: Animated

Like the features nominated every year, the shorts typically demonstrate a high level of professionalism and a conversely low level of artistic courage. Most of the animations fall squarely in line with the inevitable Wallace and Gromit entry, Nick Park's A Matter of Loaf and Death—polished 3-D work, pitched at children but invested with enough whimsy to hold their parents. A bracing exception is the snarky Logorama, which envisions Los Angeles as a 2-D world of corporate brands and mascots and pits an evil Ronald McDonald against a couple of Michelin Man supercops. 100 min.
