Comedy, Drama
Originally presented in 26 episodes, this silent 1926 travelogue of Great Britain has been excerpted and restored by the British Film Institute, and it's a worthwhile curio both socially and technically. Director Claude Friese-Greene used an early two-color process invented by his father, William, that alternated red and blue-green frames; the BFI has used digital technology to stabilize the color values, correcting the system's bothersome flicker and color fringing. Friese-Greene began his tour in Cornwall and traveled as far north as John O'Groats in Scotland, and the scenic beauty on display is counterbalanced by numerous shots of provincial Britons going about their business. 65 min.
