As Oscar and Felix again, Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon take a grueling road trip to a wedding in an obscure California town they can't seem to remember the name of—and the ethnocentricity in their shtick about the state having too many towns whose names start with different terms for saint is barely offset by Matthau's agreeable delivery. Lemmon mainly alternates hypochondriacal whining with the use of venomous expletives—as if it's funny when seemingly frail old men are aggressive. Howard Deutch directed a screenplay by Neil Simon, who wrote the 1968 prequel and the play.
